When Erika and Daniel reached out about their engagement session, they told me they wanted something natural, a little adventurous, and full of candid moments. Basically, my dream kind of shoot. We ended up exploring two of the most stunning spots along the California coast: Glen Oaks in Big Sur and Garrapata Beach, just outside Carmel. I still can’t get over how magical it all felt.
Big Sur Among the Redwoods 🌲
We started at Glen Oaks, tucked away in the heart of Big Sur. This place feels like it was made for quiet, romantic moments — towering redwoods, soft filtered light, and the smell of the forest all around. Erika wore a soft linen dress that moved beautifully with the wind, and Daniel kept it simple in neutrals. The whole vibe was effortless and earthy — just them being themselves.
Their connection is so easy and genuine. There wasn’t much directing needed — just a lot of laughter, stolen glances, and quiet moments tucked into the trees. Exactly how I love to shoot — candid and editorial, with space for the real stuff to unfold.
From Forest to Coastline — Garrapata Beach at Sunset
After the forest, we headed north toward Garrapata Beach for sunset. This stretch of coastline near Carmel is such a gem. Rugged cliffs, golden sand, and waves crashing with that perfect mix of drama and calm. It was chilly (as coastal evenings usually are), but Erika and Daniel didn’t mind one bit — especially once they pulled out the kites they’d brought along.
Yes, they flew kites on the beach during their engagement session. And it was every bit as joyful and carefree as it sounds. One of those moments that just makes you stop and smile — them running along the shore, hair flying, kites dancing in the wind. No stiff posing. Just real, unscripted happiness.
