Some love stories feel like they were written long before either person knew what love was. Before the first date, before the butterflies, before either of them could have imagined the life they would one day build together.
Kristiana and Ricky's is one of those stories.
They first met at just three years old, during mommy and me classes. Their moms became friends, and the two of them would go on to attend the same elementary school, from kindergarten through sixth grade. They weren't always in the same classroom, and at the time, neither could have known what life had planned for them.
But sometimes the sweetest parts of our stories are the ones we don't understand until much later.
Years passed, life happened, and eventually these two found their way back to each other. What started as a childhood connection became a love that feels like home. And as I got to know their story, I couldn't help but feel that their wedding day was about so much more than simply getting married. It was about coming full circle, honoring where they came from, and choosing the life they wanted to continue building together.
For their wedding day, they chose to leave behind the expectations of a traditional wedding and escape to one of the most beautiful stretches of the California coastline. Big Sur, with its moody skies, dramatic cliffs, ocean views, and endless beauty, felt like the perfect place for them.

Honestly, what more could you ask for?
A Love Story That Started at Three Years Old
There is something so special about knowing someone has been part of your story since the very beginning.
Kristiana and Ricky first crossed paths when they were only three, and their moms were friends long before either of them could have imagined their children would one day fall in love.
For Kristiana, that connection holds an especially meaningful place in her heart.
Her mom passed away in 2020 after living with early-onset Alzheimer's. By the time Kristiana and Ricky began dating, her mom was no longer in the same state of mind, and Kristiana was grieving not only her mom but also the future moments she had always imagined sharing with her.
One of those moments was her wedding day.
She had always imagined her mom meeting the person she would eventually marry, getting to know him, and giving her blessing. There was a particular kind of grief in knowing that those moments might never happen.
But as her relationship with Ricky grew, something began to bring her peace.
Ricky wasn't someone her mom would have needed to meet for the very first time. She had known him and his family when they were all just beginning their lives. Their families had been connected since childhood, and that history became something incredibly meaningful.
I think there is something so beautiful about that. Sometimes the people we wish could be beside us on our biggest days have already been part of the story in ways we don't fully understand.
The Proposal Happened Right at Home
If there is one thing I love about their proposal story, it's how incredibly personal it was.
Kristiana and Ricky were in the process of buying her childhood home from her dad. The house sits right across the street from the elementary school where they first met, making it a place filled with so many layers of memories.
The backyard, in particular, has always meant everything to Kristiana.
It was where she grew up playing with her siblings, where she felt safe, free, and happy. It represented the kind of childhood she feels so grateful to have experienced. And after moving back into the home, Ricky knew there was nowhere more meaningful to ask her to spend forever with him.
He chose a Thursday, strategically planning around Kristiana's work schedule so he would have enough time to set everything up. She had absolutely no idea what was coming (and it happened to be her hair wash day, which makes the surprise even better).
He created a beautiful setup in their shared backyard, just the two of them, in a place that already held so much of her heart.
But there was another detail that made the proposal even more special.
For nearly six years, Kristiana's dad had made a habit of visiting her mom at the cemetery almost every day he was home, usually around sunset. Ricky knew his routine, and before proposing, he went to see him and ask for his blessing.
Not just her dad's, but in a way, her mom's too.
Knowing how much Kristiana had always wanted a love reminiscent of her parents' relationship, Ricky understood just how much this would mean to her.
He really did nail it.
And I think it's pretty special that the story of two people who first met as children would eventually come back to that same neighborhood, that same elementary school, and a backyard filled with memories to begin their next chapter.
Knowing He Was the One
When Kristiana talks about the moment she knew Ricky was different, it wasn't necessarily some grand romantic gesture.
It was the way he asked about her mom.
At that point in her life, Kristiana had kept so much of her mom's illness and her own caregiving experience private. She had separated those parts of her life from almost everyone around her. It was something she wanted to talk about but hadn't necessarily felt comfortable sharing.
And then Ricky came along.
He was curious. He asked questions. He wanted to know about her mom, her experiences, and the parts of her life she hadn't opened up about with many people.
For Kristiana, that meant everything.
One of their running jokes is that Ricky has a way of saying, doing, or asking the very thing you might not expect but secretly hope someone will. It's never from a place of anything other than genuine care.
I think sometimes love is found in the moments when someone makes you feel safe enough to be completely yourself. When you realize you don't have to hide the complicated parts of your story or pretend that everything has always been easy.
And somewhere along the way, before she could even fully understand what it meant, Kristiana knew.
Choosing an Elopement That Felt Like Them
For Kristiana and Ricky, the decision to elope came down to something really simple: they wanted their wedding day to belong to them.
Having been part of other weddings, Kristiana had seen firsthand how much stress, pressure, and family expectations can sometimes become part of the experience. They didn't want to spend their wedding day worrying about what everyone else wanted or trying to fit into a version of a wedding that didn't feel quite right.
They wanted something different.
Something quiet, intentional, and entirely their own.
As people pleasers, they both recognized how easy it can be to spend so much time making everyone else happy that you forget to stop and ask what would make you happy.
And this felt like the perfect opportunity to do exactly that.
They had already built a beautiful life together. They didn't need a big wedding production to make their marriage feel meaningful. They simply wanted to take a moment, step away from the noise, and celebrate what mattered most.
Each other.
I love that they gave themselves permission to do that.
An elopement doesn't have to be about running away from something. Sometimes it's about running toward exactly what you want.
Why Big Sur Was the Perfect Place to Say I Do
When Kristiana and Ricky described why they chose Big Sur, it made so much sense.
Ricky is drawn to the ocean and dramatic cliffside views, while Kristiana loves a moody forest, beautiful sunsets, and those incredible clouds that seem to roll through the coastline.
Big Sur brings all of those things together.
It's a place that feels worlds away from the busy rhythm of city life. There is a certain calmness here, a chance to breathe a little deeper and remember how beautiful it is to simply be somewhere together.
And then there is Pfeiffer Beach.
With its dramatic sea arches, rugged coastline, purple sand, and expansive Pacific Ocean views, it's one of the most unique and beautiful places along the Big Sur coastline.
There is something wonderfully untamed about this stretch of beach. The waves, the wind, the changing light. Nothing feels too perfect or too planned, and I think that's part of its magic.
For a couple whose relationship has always been rooted in finding comfort and adventure in one another, it was such a beautiful setting.
A Pfeiffer Beach elopement is perfect for couples who want their wedding day to feel like an experience rather than an event. A day to explore, laugh, slow down, and be fully present with the person standing beside them.
And Big Sur has a way of making those moments feel even bigger.
A Little Champagne, A Little Adventure, and Forever Together
One of my favorite things about Kristiana and Ricky is the way they describe each other.
Ricky is, by all accounts, one of the silliest people Kristiana knows. He's full of energy, voices, accents, and elaborate storytelling. Apparently, even taking a bite of food can turn into an entire production, complete with physical reenactments and commentary.
And Kristiana? Her humor is a little more understated. Dry, subtle, and sometimes so unexpectedly funny that you might miss three jokes before realizing what she's said.
They have their own little language, their own ways of making each other laugh, and the kind of friendship that makes a relationship feel like home.
When they talk about what they're most looking forward to about marriage, neither of them talks about anything extravagant.
Kristiana simply can't wait to call Ricky her husband. She knows they've already built a beautiful life together, and she's excited to keep growing, making memories, and experiencing all of life's little adventures alongside him.
Ricky describes marrying Kristiana as beginning a new quest with his best friend. Every day already feels like an adventure, and he can't wait to experience life in this next chapter with her.
And honestly, I think that says everything.
Marriage isn't necessarily about beginning an entirely new life. Sometimes it's about choosing the person who has already been beside you through so much and deciding you want every version of the future with them, too.
A Few Words About Forever
There is something especially moving about a love story that comes full circle.
From two little kids meeting in mommy and me classes, to growing up in the same neighborhood, to finding each other again and building a life together. From a childhood backyard filled with memories to an intimate wedding day along the California coastline.
Kristiana and Ricky's story reminds me that love doesn't always arrive in the ways we expect. Sometimes it's been quietly woven into our lives for much longer than we realize.
And sometimes the most beautiful wedding days are the ones that strip everything back to what matters.
No expectations. No pressure. No elaborate production.
Just two people who know each other, love each other, and are choosing to keep doing life together.
Kristiana and Ricky, I hope you always remember how special this chapter is. The little jokes, the big adventures, the champagne, the quiet moments, and all the beautiful things still waiting for you.
And perhaps most importantly, I hope you never lose that feeling of being home with each other.
Here's to forever.
With love,
Flora
